The Anglican Church or Church of England as it was originally known is a denomination of Christianity that formed in England circa 16th century after a dispute between Henry VIII and the Pope of the time Pope clement VII. Anglicanism is often seen as a ‘middle ground’ between the traditional Catholic Church and the modernized Protestant. The Anglican Churches position amongst the other more famous denominations is made clear in its beliefs, church structure as well as with its internal rules.
Like all Christian denominations Anglicans believe in the one God that created Heaven and Earth at the dawn of time. Anglicans believe that the Holy Trinity are consubstantial which a Latin word meaning that the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit are all of the same substance and are the same person.
The Anglican Church shares most of its rituals with the Catholic Church however some of these rituals have different names. This is normally dependent on the Church due to Anglicanism’s autonomous church structure. One way that Anglicans are distinct from other denominations are how they pray. The Book of Common Prayer is a (normally) small book containing prayers specific to Anglicanism.
Anglicanism primarily utilizes Church’s, with extremely few Anglican monasteries. As I mentioned before the Churches are autonomous which lessens the need for monasteries. Due to the Anglican Church formerly being the Church of England it is very rich. The Anglican Church’s wealth is made clear through the numerous and enormous Anglican Cathedral that you can find all over the world.
The Anglican Church’s structure is representative of its status as a ‘middle ground’ the Churches are autonomous yet there is still a formal structure in place. The Archbishop of Canterbury a role currently filled by the 105th Archbishop, Justin Welby is the highest figure. The Archbishops is greatly respected by the churches but does not directly control them.
